The fuel filter protects the injection system from debris and sediment that can come from the fuel tank itself. Over time, buildup inside the filter restricts normal fuel flow.

Recommended replacement schedule

Generally, replace the fuel filter every 30,000–40,000 km for gasoline vehicles, and sometimes sooner for diesel engines.

Signs of a clogged filter

• Difficulty starting the engine or delayed response.
• Stumbling or vibration at steady speed.
• Sudden loss of power under acceleration or climbing.
• Stalling under heavy load.
